Who We Are
The Bucyrus Historical Society
Preserving and Promoting the History of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Adjacent Townships Since 1969
The Bucyrus Historical Society, located in Crawford County, Ohio, was established on July 15, 1969, to promote historical education within the community and to preserve the history of Bucyrus and its adjacent townships. In 1970 the Society purchased the historic Scroggs House with assistance from the Shunk Foundation, creating a museum at 202 S. Walnut Street.
To encourage the work of the Society at Scroggs House, Elizabeth Scroggs Shapiro and her family donated a number of Scroggs’ family furnishings, fixtures, and artifacts. Other members of the community contributed funds for repairs to Scroggs House and enriched the Society through donations of significant family heirlooms, photographs, documents, and other collections related to Bucyrus’ area history.
An Annual Historical Day celebration takes place at Scroggs House in July.
Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival open houses take place the third weekend in August.
Christmas Open House at the Scroggs House Museum and the Bucyrus’ Downtown Candlelight Christmas occur in early December.
The Scroggs House Museum closes for winter before Christmas and closes on all holidays.
